5 Tips for Listing Your Horse on The Cavvy

Selling a horse isn’t just uploading a few photos and hoping for the best.

You’re asking someone to invest real money, time, and trust. The way you present your horse matters more than most people realize.

If you want serious buyers, you need to look serious. Here are a few things that make a difference-

1. Lead with a Great Photo

This might be the most overlooked step. Good horses deserve good photos.

Professional photographers understand:

  • Angles that flatter conformation
  • Proper lighting
  • Clean backgrounds
  • How to pose a horse correctly
  • How to capture expression
  • They will take both saddled and unsaddled photos

Summer grass, clean legs, brushed tail, good light. It matters.

Blurry barn aisle photos, crooked halters, or shadows across the topline make buyers scroll past, even if the horse is exceptional.

A professional set of photos increases credibility instantly. It tells buyers this is a thoughtful sale, not a rushed one.

2.Make a Clear Video

Video is no longer optional.

Buyers want to see:

  • Walk, trot, lope
  • Stops
  • Turns
  • How the horse stands

Keep it simple, keep it steady, avoid heavy editing.

A clean, straightforward video will outperform a dramatic, overproduced one every time.

3. Write a Detailed Description

Don't just list breed, age, and height. Tell the buyer what makes your horse special:

  • Temperament — Is the horse calm on trails? Good with kids? Spooky or bombproof?
  • Training level — What disciplines? How many years under saddle?
  • Health history — Up to date on vaccines? Any known issues?
  • Best suited for — Beginner rider, experienced competitor, ranch work what are the horses vices?

The more detail you provide, the fewer back-and-forth messages you'll need.

4. Upload Multiple Photos

One photo isn't enough. Include shots from multiple angles, front, side, and rear. If possible, add a couple riding photos. Buyers want to see the horse in action, not just standing still.
